The Supplication of Al-Wird al-Latif and Ruqyah (Healing and Protective Supplications)

An endowment for the sake of Allah, the Exalted.

Introduction

All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, an abundant, pure, and blessed praise, and may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and all his Companions. To proceed:

In His Mighty Book, Allah Almighty says: {O you who have believed, remember Allah with much remembrance}

And Allah the Almighty said: {And men and women who remember Allah much – Allah has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward}

The remembrance of Allah Almighty is among the best and most noble of deeds; therefore, I have compiled in this book Dhikr, Supplication, and treatment with Ruqyahs from the Qur'an and the Sunnah, making them easy and accessible for everyone.

I ask Allah Almighty by His Greatest Name to make it purely for His Noble Face, and to benefit with it everyone who reads it, prints it, or contributes to its publishing, and to bestow its reward upon me, my parents, my siblings, my spouse, my offspring, and all Muslims.

Chapter One

Morning and Evening Remembrances

Surat al-Fatihah seven times

{In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful, All praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help. Guide us to the straight path. the path of those whom You have blessed; not of those who incurred Your Wrath, or of those who went astray.} [Surat al-Fatihah :1-7]

Reciting the first five verses of Surat al-Baqarah:

{Alif, Lam, Meem. This is the Book in which there is no doubt, a guidance for the righteous. those who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them. And those who believe in what has been sent down to you [O Prophet] and in what was sent down before you, and in the Hereafter they believe with certainty. It is they who are upon guidance from their Lord, and it is they who are successful. [Surat al-Baqarah: 1-5].

Ayat Al-Kursi (The Verse of Al-Kursi):

{Allah—there is no god except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the skies and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what is after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the skies and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.} [Surat al-Baqarah: 255]

- {The Messenger believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, as do the believers. All of them believe in Allah, His angels, His Books, and His messengers, [saying], “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and obey. Grant us Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination.” Allah does not burden any soul greater than it can bear. For it is what it has earned, and against it is what it has incurred. “Our Lord, do not hold us accountable if we forget or fall into error. Our Lord, do not place on us such a burden as You have placed on those before us. Our Lord, do not burden us with that which we cannot bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our Protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.”} [Surat al-Baqarah: 285-286] One time.

- {Say: “He is Allah, the One; Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is He begotten. and there is none comparable to Him.”} [Surat al-Ikhlās: 1-4] Three times.

{Say, “I seek refuge with the Lord of the daybreak, from the harm of all what He has created; from the harm of the darkening [night] when it spreads around, from the harm of the sorcerers who blow on knots, and from the harm of the envier when he envies.} [Surat al-Falaq: 1-5] Three times.

{Say, “I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind, The King of mankind the God of mankind, from the harm of the lurking whisperer, who whispers into the hearts of mankind, from among the jinn and mankind.} [Surat an-Nas: 1-6] Three times.

{Did you think that We created you with no purpose and that you would not be brought back to Us? Exalted is Allah, the True Sovereign! None has the right to be worshiped except Him, the Lord of the Honorable Throne. Whoever invokes another god besides Allah, for which he has no proof, his reckoning will be with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will never succeed.} Say, “My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and you are the Best of those who show mercy.” [Surat al-Mu’minun: 115-118]

{And say, “My Lord, I seek refuge with You from the temptations of the devils.} And I seek refuge with You, my Lord, that they even come near me.} [Al-Mu’minun: 97-98] Three times.

{So glory be to Allah in the evening and in the morning, and all praise is due to Him in the skies and earth – and [glorify Him] in the afternoon and at noon. He brings the living out of the dead and the dead out of the living, and gives life to the earth after its death. This is how you will be brought forth.} [Surat ar-Rum: 17-19]

{He is Allah, there is no god but Him, the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed. He is the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. He is Allah; there is no god but Him, the Sovereign, the Most Holy, the Most Perfect, the Granter of Security, the Watcher over all, the All-Mighty, the Compeller, the Supreme. Glory be to Allah far above what they associate with Him. He is Allah, the Creator, the Maker, the Fashioner. He has the most beautiful names. All that is in the skies and earth glorifies Him, for He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.} [Al-Hashr: 22-24]

- O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds.

O Allah, I am Your slave, son of Your slave, son of Your female slave; my forelock is in Your Hand; Your command over me is forever executed, and Your Decree over me is just. I ask You by every name belonging to You which You named Yourself with, or You revealed in Your Book, or You taught to any of Your creation, or You have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur’an the life of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the reliever of my distress and my grief, and a cure for me from every disease and sickness, and my guide to You and to the Gardens of Bliss.[1] [1] Narrated by Ahmad (3712), and the wording is his, Ibn Hibbān (972), and At-Tabarānī (210/10) (10352) with slight variation; and see: "As-Silsilah as-Sahīhah" by Al-Albāni (199).

Chapter Two

Verses of Ruqyah (protective and healing supplications)

- {In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. All praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful, Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help. Guide us to the straight path, the path of those whom You have blessed; not of those who incurred Your Wrath, or of those who went astray} [Surat al-Fātihah: 1-7]

- {Alif Lām Mīm. This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for the righteous, those who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them, and those who believe in what has been sent down to you [O Prophet] and in what was sent down before you, and in the Hereafter they believe with certainty. It is they who are upon guidance from their Lord, and it is they who are successful} [Surat al-Baqarah: 1-5]

- {Allah: there is no god but Him, the Ever-Living, All-Sustaining. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs all that is in the skies and all that is on earth. Who is there that can intercede with Him except with His permission? He knows what was before them and what will be after them, while they encompass nothing of His knowledge, except what He wills. His Kursī [i.e., footstool] extends over the skies and earth, and safeguarding of both does not weary Him, for He is the Most High, the Most Great.’ There is no compulsion in religion; the truth has been made distinct from falsehood. Whoever rejects Tāghoot [i.e., false gods] and believes in Allah, has indeed grasped the strong handhold that never breaks. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. Allah is the Protector of those who believe; He brings them out of the depths of darkness into the light. As for those who disbelieve, their protectors are false gods; they bring them out from the light into the depths of darkness. They are the people of the Fire; they will abide therein forever} [Surat al-Baqarah: 255-257].

- {And your god is one God. None has the right to be worshiped except Him – the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. Indeed, in the creation of the skies and earth; the alternation of the night and day; the sailing of the ships in the sea for the benefit of people; the sending down of rain from the sky by Allah, reviving thereby the earth after its death; the spreading of all kinds of creatures therein; the directing of the winds and clouds between the sky and earth – in all these, there are signs for people of understanding} [Surat al-Baqarah: 163-164].

{Would any of you wish to have an orchard of date palms and grapevines, under which rivers flow, full of all kinds of fruits; but he grew old and had feeble young children, then it is hit by a fiery whirlwind, burning it all? This is how Allah makes the verses clear to you so that you may reflect} [Surat al-Baqarah: 266].

- {Do they have a share in the dominion? Even if so, they would not give people even as much as the speck on a date stone. Or do they envy people for what Allah has given them out of His bounty? We gave the descendants of Abraham the Book and wisdom, and We gave them great authority} [Surat an-Nisā’: 53–54].

{To Allah belongs all that is in the skies and all that is on earth. Whether you reveal what is within yourselves or conceal it, Allah will call you to account for it. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills, for Allah is Most Capable of all things. The Messenger believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, as do the believers. All of them believe in Allah, His angels, His Books, and His messengers, [saying], “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and obey. Grant us Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination. Allah does not burden any soul greater than it can bear. You are our Protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people”} [Surat al-Baqarah: 284-286]

{Alif Lām Mīm. Allah: there is not god except him, the Ever-Living, the All-Sustaining. He has sent down to you the Book in truth, confirming what came before it. And He sent down the Torah and the Gospel previously, as guidance for people, and He sent down the Criterion [the Quran]. But those who reject the verses of Allah will suffer severe punishment, and Allah is All-Mighty, Capable of Retribution. Indeed, there is nothing hidden from Allah on earth or in the sky. It is He Who shapes you in the wombs as He wills. None has the right to be worshiped except Him, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise} [Surat Al Imrān: 1-6].

{Allah testifies that none has the right to be worshiped except Him, as do the angels and people of knowledge; He is the Upholder of justice. None has the right to be worshiped except Him, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise} [Surat Al Imrān: 18].

{Say, “O Allah, Lord of the dominion, You give dominion to whom You will and take it away from whom You will; You honor whom You will and humiliate whom You will. All good is in Your Hand. You are Most Capable of all things. You cause the night to enter into the day and cause the day to enter into the night; You bring the living out of the dead and bring the dead out of the living; and You give provision to whom You will without measure} [Surat Al Imrān: 26-27]

{Your Lord is Allah, Who created the skies and earth in six days and then rose over [i.e., istawa] the Throne. He makes the night and day overlap in rapid succession. He made the sun, the moon, and the stars – all subservient to His command. Behold, His is the creation and the command. Blessed is Allah, the Lord of the worlds. Call upon your Lord humbly and privately, for He does not like the transgressors. Do not spread corruption on earth after it has been set aright, but call upon Him with fear and hope. Indeed, the mercy of Allah is close to those who do good} [Surat al-A’raaf: 54-56].

{We inspired to Moses, “Throw your staff,” and it suddenly swallowed up all their illusionary devices. Thus the truth prevailed, and all what they did was proven to be false. They were defeated right there and were utterly humiliated. The magicians fell down in prostration} [Surat al-A‘raaf: 117-120].

{Pharaoh said, “Bring me all learned magicians.” When the magicians came, Moses said to them, “Cast whatever you have to cast.” When they did, Moses said, “All what you have brought is mere magic; Allah will surely make it useless, for Allah does not let the work of the mischief-makers thrive. And Allah establishes the truth by His Words, even though the criminals abhor it} [Surah Yūnus: 79-82].

{And say, “All praise is for Allah Who has not taken a son, nor does He have any partner in His dominion, nor does He need any protector out of weakness. And proclaim His greatness immensely”} [Surat al-Israa: 111]

{Lord of the skies and earth and all that is between them. So worship Him and be constant in worshiping Him. Do you know anyone equal to Him? And man says, 'When I am dead, will I be brought forth alive?’ Does man not remember that We created him beforehand when he was nothing? By your Lord, We will surely gather them and the devils, then We will surely bring them all around Hell on their knees. Then We will surely drag out of every group those who were most rebellious against the Most Compassionate} [Surah Taha: 65-69].

Indeed, the disbelievers will never succeed. Say, “My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and you are the Best of those who show mercy”} [Surat al-Mu’minūn: 115-118].

{So glory be to Allah in the evening and in the morning, and all praise is due to Him in the skies and earth – and [glorify Him] in the afternoon and at noon. He brings the living out of the dead and the dead out of the living, and gives life to the earth after its death. This is how you will be brought forth} [Surat ar-Rūm: 17-19].

{By those [angels] lined up in rows, and those who drive [the clouds], and those who recite Allah’s words, indeed, your God is One, Lord of the skies and earth and all that is between them, and Lord of the points of sunrise. We have adorned the sky with the beauty of the stars, and for safeguarding it against every rebellious devil, so that they cannot eavesdrop on the highest assembly [of angels] and are pelted from every side to repel them; and for them there will be a perpetual punishment, except who stealthily snatches away some words, he will be pursued by a piercing flame. So ask them, “Are they more difficult to create or other things We created? We created them from sticky clay. Rather you are astonished, while they ridicule it, and when they are reminded, they pay no heed, and when they see a sign, they ridicule it, and they say, “This is nothing but clear magic. Is it that when we are dead and become dust and bones, will we really be raised up again”} [Surat as-Sāffāt: 1-16].

{Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of Might, far above what they ascribe [to Him], and peace be upon the messengers, and all praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds} [Surat as-Sāffāt: 180-182]. Seven times.

{Hā Mīm. The revelation of this Book is from Allah, the All-Mighty, the All-Knowing, the Forgiver of sin and Accepter of repentance, the Severe in punishment and Infinite in bounty. None has the right to be worshiped except Him. To Him is the final return} [Surat Ghāfir: 1-3]

- {We will attend to you, O two multitudes [of men and jinn]. Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny? O assembly of jinn and mankind, if you are able to pass beyond the realms of the skies and earth, then pass; you cannot pass without [Our] authority. Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?} [Surat ar-Rahmān: 31-34].

{Had We sent down this Qur’an upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and break asunder out of awe of Allah. Such are the similitudes We set forth for people so that they may reflect. He is Allah; there is no god except Him, Knower of the unseen and the seen; He is the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. He is Allah; there is no god except Him, the Sovereign, the Most Holy, the Most Perfect, the Granter of Security, the Watcher over all, the All-Mighty, the Compeller, the Supreme. Glory be to Allah far above what they associate with Him. He is Allah, the Creator, the Maker, the Fashioner. He has the most beautiful names. All that is in the skies and earth glorifies Him, for He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise} [Surat al-Hashr: 21-24].

{Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the dominion, and He is Most Capable of all things. Who created death and life to test you as to which of you is best in deeds, and He is the All-Mighty, the Most Forgiving. The One who created seven skies one above another; you will not see any imperfection in the creation of the Most Compassionate. Look again; can you see any flaw? Then look again and again; your sight will turn back to you humbled and weary} [Surat al-Mulk: 1-4].

{The disbelievers would almost strike you down with their malicious gazes when they hear the Reminder, and they say, “He is certainly mad.” But it is nothing other than a reminder to the whole world} [Surat al-Qalam: 51-52].

{And that He – our exalted and glorified Lord – has neither taken a wife nor a child} [Surat al-Jinn: 3].

{Say: “He is Allah, the One; Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is He begotten, and there is none comparable to Him”} [Surat al-Ikhlās: 1-4].

{Say, “I seek refuge with the Lord of the daybreak, from the harm of all what He has created; from the harm of darkening [night] when it spreads around, from the harm of the sorceresses who blow on knots, and from the harm of the envier when he envies”} [Surat al-Falaq: 1-5].

{Say, “I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind, the Sovereign of mankind, the God of mankind, from the harm of the lurking whisperer, who whispers into the hearts of mankind, from among jinn and mankind”} [Surat an-Nās: 1-6].

{Say, “O disbelievers, I do not worship what you worship, nor do you worship what I worship. Never will I worship what you worship, nor do you worship what I worship. You have your religion and I have my religion”} [Surat al-Kāfirūn: 1-6].

{To Him belongs all that rests in the night and in the day, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. [Surat al-An‘aam: 13].

{If Allah afflicts you with harm, there is none that can remove it except Him; if He grants you good, He is Most Capable of all things. He is the Vanquisher over His slaves, and He is the All-Wise, the All-Aware} [Surat al-An‘aam: 17-18].

{Allah is the Light of the skies and earth. The likeness of His light is that of a niche in which is a lamp; the lamp is in a glass; the glass is like a shining star – it is lit by [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, which is neither of the East nor of the West. Its oil would almost glow, even without being touched by fire. Light upon light; Allah guides to His light whom He wills. Allah sets forth comparisons for people, and Allah is All-Knowing of everything. [Such niches are lit] in the houses [of worship] which Allah has ordered to raise up, and where His Name is mentioned, and He is glorified therein morning and evening} [Surat an-Nūr: 35-36].

- {If Allah afflicts you with harm, none can remove it except Him; if He wants good for you, none can withhold His bounty. He grants it to whom He wills of His slaves, and He is the All-Forgiving, the Most Merciful} [Surat Yūnus: 107].

{Is He [not better] Who responds to the distressed when he calls out to Him, and Who relieves suffering, and Who makes you successors on earth? Is there any god besides Allah? Little is it that you take heed! Or who guides you through the darknesses of the land and the sea and who sends the winds as good tidings before His mercy? Is there a deity with Allah? High is Allah above whatever they associate with Him. Is He [not better] Who originates creation then repeats it, and Who gives you provision from the sky and earth? Is there any god besides Allah? Say, “Produce your evidence, if you are truthful”} [Surat an-Naml: 62-64].

- {Fight them, Allah will punish them at your hands and will disgrace them and give you victory over them, and will soothe the hearts of people who believe} [Surat at-Tawbah: 14].

{O people, there has come to you an exhortation from your Lord, a cure for [illness] of the hearts, a guidance and mercy for the believers} [Surat Yūnus: 57].

{Then feed on every kind of fruit and follow the ways that your Lord made easy for you.” There comes out from their bellies a drink of various colors, in which there is healing for people. Indeed, there is a sign in this for people who reflect} [Surat an-Nahl: 69].

{We send down the Qur’an as a healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss} [Surat al-Israa: 82].

{“And when I am ill He heals me”} [Surat ash-Shu‘arā: 80].

- {And if We had made it a non-Arabic Qur’an, they would have said, “Why are its verses not explained in detail? A non-Arabic scripture and an Arab messenger?” Say, “It is, for those who believe, a guidance and a cure.” And those who do not believe, in their ears is a deafness, and it is blindness for them. Those people are being called from a distant place} [Surat Fussilat: 44].

‘O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the harm, and cure, for You are the Curer, there is no cure but Your cure, a cure that leaves behind no illness.’ [52] [52] Narrated by Al-Bukhāri (5675).

‘I ask Allah the Magnificent, Lord of the Mighty Throne to cure you.’ (seven times) [53] [53] Narrated by Abu Dāwūd (3106), and At-Tirmidhi (2083).

‘I seek refuge with Allah’s perfect words from His anger, His punishment, His evil slaves, and from the incitements of devils, and that they be present with me.’ [54] [54] Da‘īf al-Jāmi‘, by Shaykh Al-Albāni (382).

‘In the name of Allah, the Healer, O Allah, cure Your servant and attest to the truth of Your Messenger.’

‘Our Lord is Allah Who is in the sky, hallowed be Your name. Your command is in the sky and the earth. As Your mercy is in the sky, place Your mercy on the earth. Forgive us our sins and our wrongdoings. You are the Lord of the good.’

‘Bestow upon this pain some of Your mercy, some of Your cure, and some of Your blessings.’

‘Place your hand on the part of your body where you feel the pain and say: In the name of Allah, three times.’

And say seven times: ‘I seek refuge in Allah’s might and power from the evil of what I find and what I fear’ [55]. [55] Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi (3588).

Chapter Three

Supplications upon Completing the Recitation of the Qur’an

‘O Allah, indeed You said, and Your speech is the manifest truth, and You are the truest of speakers: {Who is more truthful than Allah in speech?} {Who is more truthful in speech than Allah?} {Say, “Allah has spoken the truth, so follow the religion of Abraham, exclusively devoted to Allah”} ‘O Allah, we praise You, and we seek Your help, and we seek Your guidance, and we seek Your forgiveness, and we repent to You. We believe in You, and we put our trust in You, and we praise You with all goodness. We thank You and do not deny You, and we renounce and forsake those who disobey You. O Allah, You alone we worship, and to You we pray and prostrate, and to You we strive and hasten. We hope for Your mercy and fear Your punishment; indeed, Your severe punishment will overtake the disbelievers.’

‘Praise be to You for Islam, and praise be to You for the Qur’an, and praise be to You for wealth, family, and well-being. You have subdued our enemy, established our security, and united us. And of all that we have asked of You, our Lord, You have given us. So to You belongs abundant praise and thanks, just as You give abundantly.’

‘O Allah, to You belongs the praise until You are pleased, and to You belongs praise when You are pleased, and to You belongs praise after You are pleased, and to You belongs praise in all circumstances. To You is the praise of what we say, and better than what we say, and to You is the praise of what You say.’

‘O Allah, we are Your servants, the sons of Your servants, the sons of Your female servants. Our forelocks are in Your Hand; Your command is ever-enforced upon us.’

‘O Allah, we ask You by every Name belonging to You which You named Yourself with, or You revealed in Your Book, or You taught to any of Your creation, or You have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Great Qur'an the life of our hearts, the light of our chests, a removal for our sorrows, and a banisher of our anxieties and our griefs, and our guide and driver to Your good pleasure and to Your Gardens, the Gardens of Delight.’

‘O Allah, remind us of what we have forgotten of it and teach us what we do not know of it. Bless us with its recitation throughout the night and at the ends of the day in the way that makes You pleased with us, and make it a proof for us and not against us. O Allah, adorn us with the adornment of the Qur’an, honor us with the honor of the Qur’an, and ennoble us with the nobility of the Qur’an; and enable us to act upon it as is befitting and as You will, and to learn it and teach it as Your Prophet (ﷺ) commanded.’

‘O Allah, benefit us and elevate us through the noble Qur’an. O Allah, make us among those who deem lawful what it has made lawful and unlawful what it has made unlawful, who act upon its clear verses, believe in its ambiguous verses, and recite it as it ought to be recited. O Allah, make us among those who uphold its letters and its ordinances, and do not make us among those who uphold its letters but neglect its ordinances.’

‘O Allah, by the Qur'an, move us from misery to happiness, from the Fire to Paradise, from misguidance to guidance, and from humiliation to honor, O Lord of Majesty and Honor, and from all forms of evil to all forms of good, O Ever-Living, O Self-Sustaining.’

‘O Allah, by it (the Qur’an) clothe us in robes of honor, shelter us in blissful shades, repel tribulations from us, and increase our blessings, O Owner of Majesty and Honor. O Allah, make us among the people of the Qur’an, who are Your chosen and close servants, O Owner of Majesty and Honor. O Allah, make the glorious Qur'an a light for our hearts, a clarity for our vision, a cure for our ailments, an expiation for our sins, and a deliverer from the Fire.’

‘O Allah, make us enlightened by the recitation of Your Book, attentive listeners to its delightful discourse, submissive to its commands and prohibitions, among the victorious upon its completion, attainers of its reward, mindful of You in all our months, and hopeful in You in all of our affairs. O Allah, make it a blessed conclusion and a useful recitation, O Lord of the worlds.’

‘O Allah, admit us into the Gardens by it (the Qur’an) and grant us high ranks by it, and expiate for us our evil deeds by it, and forgive us, O our Master, our slips by it, O Lord of the worlds.’

‘O Allah, have mercy upon me by means of the Qur'an, and make it for me a guide, a light, a guidance, and a mercy. O Allah, remind me of what I have forgotten from it, and teach me what I am ignorant of from it, and bless me with its recitation throughout the night and at the ends of the day, and make it a proof for me, O Lord of the worlds. O Allah, rectify for me my religion, which is the safeguard of my affairs, and rectify for me the affairs of this world, wherein is my sustenance, and rectify for me my Hereafter, wherein is my return, and make life an increase for me in every good, and make death a relief for me from every evil. O Allah, make the best of my life its end, and the best of my deeds their conclusions, and the best of my days the Day I meet You.’

‘O Allah, I ask You for a pleasant life, an upright death, and a return that is neither shameful nor disgraceful. O Allah, I ask You for the best of requests, the best of supplications, the best of success, the best of knowledge, the best of deeds, the best of rewards, the best of life, and the best of death. Keep me steadfast, make my scales heavy, fulfill my hopes, raise my ranks, accept my prayers, forgive my sins, and I ask You for the highest degrees in Paradise. O Allah, I ask You for that which ensures Your mercy, that which guarantees Your forgiveness, safety from every sin, a share in every act of piety, the triumph of entering Paradise, and salvation from the Fire. O Allah, make our outcome good in all affairs, and protect us from the disgrace of this world and the punishment of the Hereafter.’

May Allah's peace and abundant blessings be upon our beloved Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions

Istikhārah (councel-seeking) supplication:

‘O Allah, I consult You for Your knowledge, and I seek strength from You for Your power, and I ask of Your great bounty. Indeed, You are capable and I am not, and You know and I do not, and You are the All-Knower of the unseen. O Allah, if You know that this matter (here you name your need) is good for me concerning my religion, my livelihood, and the consequences of my affairs, then decree it for me, make it easy for me, and then bless it for me. O Allah, and if You know that this matter (here you name your need) is bad for me concerning my religion, my livelihood, and the consequences of my affairs, then turn it away from me, and turn me away from it, and decree for me what is good wherever it may be, and then make me pleased with it.’ [56] [56] Narrated by Al-Bukhari (1162).

Salāt al-Janāzah (the Funeral prayer):

The one praying behind the Imam makes four Takbīrs while standing, with no opening supplication, Rukū‘, or Sujūd.

The first Takbir: Recite Surat al-Fatihah after it, {All praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds..} [Surat al-Fatihah: 1].

The second Takbīr: Recite the Abrahamic prayer upon the Prophet, as it is recited in the prayer.

The third Takbir: You supplicate for the dead with whatever Allah makes easy, and among such invocations is: O Allah, forgive those of us who are living and those of us who are dead, those of us who are present and those of us who are absent, those of us who are young and those of us who are old, and those of us who are male and those of us who are female. O Allah, whoever of us You give life, let him live upon Islam, and whoever of us You take in death, let him die in a state of faith. O Allah, forgive him and have mercy upon him, grant him wellness and pardon him, make his resting place a noble one, and facilitate his entry. Wash him with water, snow, and hail, and purify him from sins as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. O Allah, give him in exchange a home better than his home, and a family better than his family. O Allah, admit him into Paradise, and protect him from the punishment of the grave and from the punishment of the Hellfire, and make his grave spacious and illuminate it for him. O Allah, do not deprive us of his reward, and do not lead us astray after him. A person may supplicate with this and other such reported invocations.

And if there are children that have passed away, one says: ‘O Allah, make them a reward in store for their parents, make their scales heavy on account of them, make them a means for accepted supplications, and put them under the care of Abraham.’

and other such good reported supplications.

The fourth Takbīr: he pauses for a little while then does the Taslīm to his right, saying: Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullah. This is the legislated description of the Funeral prayer.

This is if it is feasible for him to do so; but if he misses it, he is not obligated to make it up, as it is a communal obligation.
